Dustin Corn’s Take

Courtney Mills is Kennesaw State’s eight signee of the 2017 recruiting class.  Courtney helped lead McEachern to a 11-2 record and to the quarterfinals of the GHSA 7A State Playoffs.  Courtney has a solid build that brings an element of physicality needed to the linebacking corps.  He has the physical presence to come downhill and stuff a ball carrier in the hole, and the athleticism to play sideline to sideline in pursuit.  Courtney also demonstrates these attributes while competing against some of the best high school football the state of Georgia has to offer.  Courtney also possesses the instincts you want to see out of someone roaming the middle of your defense.  When rushing the passer, he does a great job getting his hands in passing lanes. When QBs extend plays he shows maturity in his understanding of when to vacate a zone/coverage to force a decision from the QB. If he ran a .10th faster in the 40, or possessed 2 more inches in height, I could see his offer list growing substantially.  This was a solid addition to the team by Kennesaw State’s coaching staff.

Future Impact

It will depend on health/depth to whether Courtney contributes in 2017.  I wouldn’t mind seeing him redshirt to get a full grasp of the defense and acclimate to the talent at this level.  I would expect Courtney to be a Mike backer in Kennesaw State’s defense, and I look forward to watching him progress in his time at KSU.  Welcome to The Nest!
