Dustin Corn’s Take
Shawn Furlow is Kennesaw State’s 15th signee of the 2017 recruiting class. Shawn is a transfer from ECU and was highly recruited out of high school. He possessed offers from top flight FBS schools such as North Carolina, Clemson, Louisville, etc. Shawn will be an early enrollee at Kennesaw State and have three years to play two. Shawn possessed above average speed, balance, vision, and toughness at South Central HS. He seems to run through arm tackles with ease and have enough speed to hit the homerun if the opportunity presents itself. From his time at ECU it’s obvious that he has gotten quite a bit bigger from their S&C program. This should add another dimension to our slots as that added size could be a large benefit in taking on linebackers when blocking from the wing.
Shawn is physically more than ready to contribute from day one. Being an early enrollee will allow him to participate in spring ball and get a good grasp of the offense prior to fall camp. There is a large vacancy at slot back with Chaston Bennett graduating, and I’m sure Shawn has his eyes on filling on that role. There will be a lot of competition for that vacated spot, but I would expect Shawn to play a large role for the 2017 team. He has the ability to help out at slot and as another option as a kick returner. While he hasn’t played a big role for ECU in either of his two seasons, I’m sure he’s hungrier than ever to justify his HS accolades. With fresh legs and a thirst for playing time, he will be one to watch for the Owls in 2017. Welcome to The Nest!
