Safety from southeast GA commits to KSU
Kennesaw State Football has gotten a commitment from Camden County High School’s Jeremiah Compton (2018).
General Quote from Camden County HC Bob Sphire: “Jeremiah plays the game with his head and his heart. He has an extremely high football IQ and can be a leader in the secondary by making all the calls and directing all of the adjustments. He will also lead by his actions. He is an outstanding tackler and will attack the ball when it is in the air. He will be one who develops to his peak potential because he enjoys and values the weight room. He will be a valuable and dependable asset to Kennesaw State these next four years. He has the ability to be the face of a program because of his character and work ethic.”
I asked Coach Sphire to give a little more insight into the recruiting process: “He had a lot of good choices. Not only is Jeremiah a good player, but he is also a really good student. So, he had several opportunities that fit his skill set where he could be a key contributor on the field, but also where he could find the right academic fit for him to excel in the classroom and get a life-changing degree. Kennesaw state fit for him. He has all of the academic options available to him there and I think the fact that the Football program is on the rise and now competing at a national level, meant to him that it had everything to offer that he was looking for as he did his checklist in his decision-making process. He had really good visit experiences at the colleges he had narrowed it down to in his final list, but I know he seemed especially comfortable after his game visit experience there this past fall.”
Recruit Georgia: “Compton plays back at his safety spot reading the offensive play and reacting appropriately. He gets a great jump on the play which demonstrates his excellent reactions, but he also showcases elite acceleration to the ball carrier. He is a textbook tackler and will stuff the ball carrier, which at some points causes a fumble. Compton has elite acceleration and looks like a player that should have a lot more FBS offers than what he currently holds. His senior year he has put together a very productive season, and Camden’s defense has kept them in games including a 0-0 score at halftime vs Colquitt. He doesn’t really have much top-end speed, but has gained 10 lbs in the last year, and considering how quickly he reach his speed, we think he can play strong safety at the next level. Expect him to be closer to 210 in college.”
