Q: Thanks for joining me today for this interview! Let’s start off with the basics – can you tell everybody where you played HS ball and what is your current height/weight, 40 time and bench?

I played high school ball at Hillcrest High school in Evergreen, Alabama. I currently am 6’1 249lbs. I also run a 4.7 40 and I bench 320.

Q: You had a very impressive offer list – including multiple schools from your home state of Alabama. Can you talk a bit how the recruiting process went for you and what went into your decision to pick the Owls?

The recruiting process started off really slow for me, but I enjoyed it though. I was able to be an inspiration to the kids in my community – seeing different colleges visit every day. I first heard from KSU in May of my junior year and I visited KSU in the summer. I have not been on my official visit yet.

Coach Worley, Coach Klein, and Coach Downing recruited me. KSU has a great coaching staff that believes in you from the start. For me, it was just going somewhere where you are wanted and where the coaches actually believe in your ability. The players were also nice, they would stop and actually have a conversation with you and that’s something you really want if those are the guys you’re going to be around the most. I knew in the summer after my visit that it was the place for me – the coaches really wanted me to be there.

Q: Did you play all 4 years at Hillcrest? Where did you play? What did your numbers look like?

I started all 4 years at Hillcrest. I had 300 tackles 30 TFL and 18 sacks. I did a lot of different things, I played LB and DE mostly. I also spent time at FB.

Q: Where do you envision yourself playing at KSU, DE, Rush End or LB?

For me it’s kind of hard to say because I can do all three and that was the main thing for the coaches. They want me to come in and see what I can do.

Q: Can you describe your playing style to KSU fans and what they can expect? Perhaps who are some people you can compare your game to?

My game is very physical. They can expect a fast, physical player is going to do whatever the coaches need for us to win. If I had to pick a few players, I would say Ryan Anderson (Alabama/Washington Redskins) and Khalil Mack. Ryan Anderson because we share the same measurables and athletic ability. Khalil Mack because he brings a fast, physical, and aggressive nature to his game. So that’s what you will see out of me.

Q: How did you improve from your junior season to your senior season?

I was more of a dominant player my senior year. I stepped up and led the team on the defensive side of the ball. I was also able to play multiple positions. So I would say I became more versatile.

Q: What are you working on this offseason?

I’m working on strength and conditioning and also understanding different football terminologies.

Q: When will you be joining the squad?

I’m supposed to join the team in the early part of the summer.

Q: Do you have any nicknames? What would you like the fans to know you as?

JD or Jeremy, I’m cool with either.

Q: What do you plan to major in at KSU?

I’m undecided right now.
