Football Adds Surprise Scholarship-Caliber Pieces to Spring Roster
Kennesaw State Football has added and removed a few players from the Spring Football Roster.
Let’s start with the additions, and the biggest ones are at positions of need.
It looks like the coaches brought back CB Akebren Ralls, a member of the original signing class, who was dismissed from the team about a year ago due to many things that I won’t bring up in this post. Bottomline is, with Georgia Tech signee Ajani Kerr flipping on the Owls at the last minute, it created a need for a cornerback and Ralls was a very productive player at practices before his dismissal. I would be extremely surprised if Ralls was handed a scholarship to come back, because that would set a bad precedent. I’m going to assume he will be walking on with the chance to earn one next season.
The Owls also brought in Mercer transfer Duronte Carter. The former Newton HS standout was a scholarship player for the Bears, but will have to earn one at Kennesaw State.
KSU brought in punter Austin Bennett, a River Ridge graduate and transfer from Tusculum. He had one punt for 61 yards in his time there.
Linebacker Justin Haney of Hillgrove HS/Lenoir-Rhyne was also added to the roster. I cannot find any stats of significance for Justin.
Midyear transfer from Appalachian State QB Daniel David was added, as expected.
A bunch of walk-ons have left the team. The most notable one being punter Hunter Smith, who held down the job after he was added to the roster after the first few games on the season. Other players who are no longer listed: QB Zack Buchan, DB William Flowers, RB Che’Darious Robinson, LB Jesse House, LS Austin Brown, WR Clay Phillips, K/P Josh Boham.
