Football Adds S/LB from Macon
Kennesaw State Football has gotten a commitment from S/LB Marquez Baxter (2019) of Southwest HS in Macon, GA. The Owls gave him his offer yesterday. Baxter tells me he was recruited by KSU as a Sam backer (think Bryson Armstrong’s position). He was previously committed to Akron.
Recruit Georgia: “Baxter has a ton of upside given his length and speed coming off the edge. He has a narrow waist, not sure if adding weight will be easy, but the 2019 athlete can sure hit either way. I really like his lateral quickness given his size and position. He does a really good job of lining up his tackles. Baxter looks like hybrid OLB/SS prospect. He needs to get stronger in the lower body and not just rely on having good momentum when making a tackle. The 2019 recruit should end up around 225 and become a pretty good threat to create turnovers. I like his upside to top spread offenses playing out in the flat, and think with the right training he could be tough to block. He’s a tweener at this point, but with solid tackling fundamentals and length he should certainly attract D1 schools.”
wgxa.tv Article: “Baxter might be the most quiet of the group, but his head coach certainly noticed his play. “He’s a student of the game. He works hard. He’s made a committment to this team and to himself to have a good year this year” said head coach Joe Dupree.” He’s stepping up into a senior leadership role and I’m so proud of him for doing that. We are excited to watch him play on Friday nigtht.”
Marquez is a model player on the field, and a model citizen off of it. Being a great leader in every walk of life. “He’s a good kid. Other than football, he’s a great kid off the field and that makes him special to me because football is just a part of their life and I try to teach them that. He does a good job in the classroom and on the field.”
