There are some really big surprises, especially on the offensive line. Three of the five starters on the offensive line are walk-ons being backed up by scholarship players. This tells me that there was really competition and the best players won the job, and I can’t argue with that.

  • C.J. Collins (LT), John Pearson (LG) and Zach Mitchler (RG) are all walk-ons.
  • QB Trey White won the battle as expected, and is another walk-on.
  • WR P.J. Stone got the nod over Xavier Harper as expected, while Justin Sumpter beat out Tre Trawick on the other side.
  • UCF transfer Micah Reed will start over redshirt freshman Trey Chivers.
  • Georgia Tech transfer Chaz Cheeks beat out Kent State transfer Dustyn Moore for the #1 rush end position.
  • Izzy Sam at MLB is a walk-on who beat out JUCO transfer Kyron Minter.
  • JUCO transfer and recent addition Keon Roman will get the start over Raymone Jennings at a corner position.
  • Redshirt freshman Taylor Henkle beat out JUCO safety Derrick Farrow for a starting safety spot.
  • Safety Shawn Reynolds is getting the starting nod as a walk-on as he beat out Will Cape.
  • Justin Thompson is going to be the kicker.
