2013-14 Profile: Tanner Wozniak
About: 6 foot 5 185 pound guard/forward Tanner Wozniak (Jones County JC/Florida International/Keswick Christian HS) will join the Owls this season after transferring from Jones County Junior College in Mississippi. He was recruited out of high school by North Carolina St., Auburn, Baylor, Belmont, Charleston, Davidson, Jacksonville, Arkansas St., Central Florida and South Florida. He started his college career at Florida International but decided to leave after they fired the legendary Isiah Thomas.
Tanner has the distinction of being the only current Atlantic Sun Conference player to be named to a prestigious Parade Magazine All-American squad–Parade has been naming high school All-Americans in basketball for nearly 60 years. He was named to the fourth team (out of four teams) in 2011 along with current NBA players and first round draft picks Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Marquis Teague.
Following his year at Florida International, Isiah Thomas left him the following letter of recommendation
Past: Tanner didn’t do much of anything as a freshman at FIU, and only reached double digits in minutes six times. As a sophomore at Jones County, he got much more comfortable.
Future: He is a player who is best off of the catch and shoot due to his quick release. He will help the Owls space the floor, and make everybody just a little better because of it. Although he can handle the ball adequately when needed, it shouldn’t be something he’s asked to do too much of. He’s not the most athletic player, but he is a willing and intelligent defender.
Look for him to be in the starting lineup and play 20+ minutes for this year’s team.
